     F/V Suavecito:

ENGINE Port 1:

ENGINE 2 Starboard:

 

FUEL FILTRATION SYSTEM: Racor Twin Turbine Series Fuel Filter/Water Seperator 10 Micron Port & Starboard side filter assembly: Appeared serviceable, No water present. vacuum gauges installed.

THROTTLE & SHIFTER CONTROLS: Panish Morse cable shifters worked Smooth and properly at flybridge.

SEAWATER PUMP: Seals not leaking/no water present. adequate pressure. but definitely showing signs they both need to be relaced

TUBE-TYPE HEAT EXCHANGER: checked inlet and outlet flow temperature, within parameters. Small leak at expansion tank

ENGINE OIL COOLER: checked inlet and outlet temperatures, all within parameters

ENGINE MOUNTED FUEL COOLER: checked inlet and outlet temperatures, all within parameters

SEAWATER PUMP OUTLET PRESSURE: adequate pressure

COOLANT LEVEL SENSOR: working properly no leaks observed.

ENGINE MOUNTS AND BED:  Main engine beds are heavy longitudinal stringers inboard and outboard. Engine Mounts Satisfactory

LUBRICATION: Oil Level indication is normal both port and starboard.

LUBE OIL PRESSURE: (WOT) engine 100% load at 2300RPMs with 50 psi. oil pressure. port & starboard. Starboard engine. Port Tachometer Guage inoperable at flybridge.

COOLING SYSTEM TYPE: Freshwater reservoir type cooling with Seawater cooled wet exhaust, Operated satisfactory.

COOLANT LEVEL: Normal levels observed. Pressurized expansion tanks on both engines to 25psi no noticeable drop in pressure. used heat sensing gun on all cooling system surfaces. operated normal.

HOSES AND CLAMPS: Most of the Cooling system hoses and hose clamps need to be replaced.

BELTS AND PULLEYS: Belts & Pulleys condition appeared serviceable

SEACOCKS AND STRAINERS: Seawater seacocks were ball valve type. Operated smooth & satisfactory. DANGER: HOSES FROM SEACOCKS & STRAINER TO SEAWATER PUMP NEED TO BE REPLACED IMEDIATELY, BOTH PORT & STARBOARD ARE AT RISK OF FAILURE.

EXHAUST SYSTEM: Seawater cooled with risers and flexible coupling sections new hoses & double clamped where sighted. 

ENGINE ALARMS: Alarm systems inoperable both port and starboard, components seem to be there but no wiring. need to be fixed before any lengthy journey.

ENGINE SHUT DOWN: electronic style shut off solenoid switches operated satisfactory 

TRADITIONAL PACKING STYLE SHAFT SEALS: Working properly leaks slowly while under way

ENGINE ALIGNMENT: Starboard side Appeared Smooth & without vibration. port side still within parameters but vibrating some.

RUDDERS: Packing gland style, not leaking excessively appeared serviceable. no vibration.

TURBOCHARGERS: sounded like they spooled up around 1200 RPM and operated satisfactory

DETROIT ALLISON TRANSMISSIONS: Both performed adequately while shifting no excessive noise or vibration while under way.

SEATRIAL REPORT:

1. The engines started without excessive cranking.

2. The engine exhaust appeared normal. very minimal smoke for engines of this age.

3. The cooling water exhaust appeared adequate and normal.

4. The engine instruments operate within normal operating limits at idle, cruising speed and at wide open throttle. except engine tachometer port side inoperable, also no alarm system port or starboard

5. The steering system operated normally. very responsive.

6. The throttles operated normally.

7. The transmissions, both went in & out of gear smooth with no excessive noise

8. The backdown test was satisfactory.

9. both rudder linkage operated smooth while underway, no leaks detected

 

Wide Open Throttle Test (WOT):

Both Engines operated smooth with 50psi oil pressure. and minimal smoke. Starboard engine reached top RPM at 2300 but the Tachometer for port side was inoperable but my opinion is both engines were running at 2300 RPMs. Water temperature creeped up fairly fast to 200degrees indicating that the saltwater cooling system needs to be serviced. Vibration from Transmission and drivetrain within parameters.

 

MARINE ENGINE SURVEY SUMMARY:

As a result of my investigation, MARINE ENGINE SURVEY, and by virtue of my experience, my opinion is OVERALL ENGINE RATING:  GOOD: the engine room and engines appear to be well maintained.

RESULTS, RECOMENDATIONS & BALL PARK REPAIR COSTS:

  1. All of the cooling system hoses & hose clamps need to be replaced. and some of the fuel and oil compression crimped hoses,= hoses, and hose clamps $1600, labor 21 HRS.  the reason labor is so high is because some of the engine components need to be removed in order to replace some of the hoses.
  2. SEACHEST & Sea Strainer hoses 4inch need to be replaced. hoses, $600 labor 4 HRS
  3. Alarm system, oil pressure and water temperature need to hooked up. $1200 – $1700
  4. Port side expansion tank leaking. labor & materials $300
  5. Replace hoses & hose clamps for Crankcase Air Breathers need replaced x 4= $300 also 4 air filters $150
  6. Replace Seawater pump x2 $2000 labor 4 HRS.
  7. Replace Antifreeze with SCA Charged, 12gallons= $360
  8. Descale saltwater system, because of the length of time since it was serviced ( Owner said 5 years that he’s had the boat and no records of service) also during WOT test the temperature jumped up fairly quick. I recommend all the system components be removed and submerged in descaling tank. HEAT EXCHANGER, LUBE OIL COOLER, FUEL OIL COOLER, EXSPANSION TANK & TRANSMISSION LUBE OIL COOLER. on both engines. = Gaskets & Seals $500 labor 24 HRS

53hrs Labor at $175hr= $9,275
